Reinvent Your Home

About Me

Reinvent Your Home

My name is Jackie. Welcome to my new blog. This blog is designed to offer advice and information to anyone out there who is considering reinventing their home. I woke up one morning and realised that I hadn't changed the decor of my home in over 15 years. The wallpaper was faded, the fireplace looked dated and the paint on the walls was chipped and cracked. I woke my husband and insisted that we take action. The next day, I contacted various remodelling contractors and started discussing plans. I spent the next couple of weeks chatting with them as they completely transformed my home. I was so pleased with the result, I decided to start a blog.

How To Conduct Kitchen Renovations

If you intend to conduct home improvements, it will not come as a surprise if the kitchen comes first on your renovation list. The kitchen is a family space where many memories are made. As such, you should have a functional kitchen that meets the needs of your family. The article below details some tips for your next kitchen renovation.

Decide What Needs To Be Done

Your first task should be to consider what you intend to improve. Ideally, you should sketch your new kitchen to determine the viability and functionality of the proposed improvements. Below are some kitchen improvements to consider:

  • Creating more space by decluttering the kitchen, pulling down an adjacent wall or creating a deck or patio to serve as a kitchen lounge.
  • Installing new countertops to improve the appeal of the kitchen. Alternatively, you could want to increase the working areas.
  • Installing new cooking equipment. Increasing the storage space of the kitchen. For example, you could install wall cabinets.
  • Renovating the kitchen backsplash to make it easier to clean. Besides, you could want to change the colours or materials used for the backsplash.
  • Creating a kitchen island to serve as a small dining or recreational area within the kitchen. Installing new floors and lighting systems.

Budget For Your Project

Once you know what you want, create a kitchen renovation budget to establish how much you need to improve your kitchen. If you do not have sufficient funds, most banks will be more than willing to give you a home improvement loan. Besides, you could also refinance your mortgage to free up some equity. Consider cost-cutting mechanisms to reduce the renovation budget. For example, you could purchase used cabinets and tiles.

Consider The Services Of An Experienced Contractor

If possible, you should hire a contractor to help out with the kitchen renovations. It is a sure way to guarantee quality works. When hiring a contractor, ask them to take you to some of their sites to establish if they have the expertise to conduct the renovation works. Additionally, ask the contractor how long it will take to complete the project. Since you would want to resume using your kitchen, consider contractors who can complete the project in the shortest possible time without compromising quality. For instance, some contractors will come with many employees to ensure they finish the works overnight. Remember to examine the contractor's insurance, pricing and terms.

When conducting kitchen renovations, decide what needs to be done, budget for your project and hire an experienced contractor.
